PRATT HOMES | “Bear Creek Ridge”

October 2017

The Work

The Project

Pratt Homes’ Bear Creek Ridge real estate development was one of the first in North America to use Virtual Reality in the sales office to visualize homes for prospective buyers.

The Brief

With just a couple of weeks until the opening of the sales office, I was engaged by Tygershark - Pratt Homes’ marketing agency to pull together the interactive VR sales tool they were developing. After going through a couple sets of developers and running up against the deadline - they brought me on to crunch and connect the dots to be able to launch with an interactive Architectural Visualization in VR that they can put prospective buyers in to take in the various units for sale.

The Results

Ultimately the project was a success leading to swift sales of the development and giving homeowners comfort in their purchases.

The Process

The workflow for this project was fairly simple. I led a distributed team of five to build out the floor plans in 3D and bring them into the engine. The project had me coordinating a team of 3 modelers, a lighting artist, and a developer for a successful activation. We had a bit of a back and forth with the TygerShark folks about the styling and decoration of the space, integrating and optimizing models that they were requesting. For a number of the assets we had to create new lightmaps and materials by hand as the assets selected were not created with real-time rendering in mind.

The Tech

We used Unity 2017 as our engine of choice for the project. The team at TygerShark didn’t have any experience in Unreal and we would be leaning on them to help deploy the project when it was ready. We used both the original HTC Vive and Oculus Rift for development, and it was deployed for Oculus in the sales office.
